Dudley Dix from Hout Bay, South Africa, is a designer of cruising yachts. He gained his wide experience from various self-construction projects and participation in many regattas. His experience enables him to design fast yachts that satisfy the highest functional demands.

Dudley Dix was trained as a designer in the States and creates his constructions according to the specifications of ABS (American Bureau of Shipping). With his own construction Black Cat, a very light 38 foot boat made of wood and synthetic material, he and his crew won second place in the overall rating, in the race from Cape to Rio in 1996 - competing against substantially bigger yachts.

He also constructed the 'Zulu Dawn' (NCS challenger) for Anthony Steward, who was the first to sail around the world in a single-handed open boat. The manifold designs one can find on Dudly Dix's homepage meet highest demands. If asked, Dudley Dix can adapt any construction or redesign completely if this is required.

As a family-owned business Dudley personally aims at offering the highest possible assistance to make the building of his ships possible worldwide, in any shipyard or likewise as a self-construction.

Dudley's 'SHEARWATER 45' received overall top award in the 2001 Cruising World Boat of the Year Awards.
