The idea of having an aluminium yacht built in South Africa emerged from reading an article in the Yacht Magazine in autumn 1992. Because the time for such an endeavour was not ripe then, we tried not to indulge too much in such dreams.
... from the Building Ceramic Trade to sailing the world ...
Already long ago we were fascinated particularly by high latitudes and we are now looking forward to getting to know those latitudes with our Blue Pearl.

Finally, in spring 98 we embarked on our first journey to South Africa in order to get to know country and people and, of course, to look for a suitable shipyard. In Grassy Park, a suburb of Capetown, we discovered Jacobs Brothers, a family-owned shipyard. Then we got in touch with the siph designer Dudley Dix in Hout Bay, Capetown, to determine on a design for a new construction.
Eventually, we came to the conclusion that the construction 'Dix 43 Pilot' already drawn at that time corresponded largely to our ideas and with small amendments could be easily adapted to our wishes. Having made up our mind on the design we could, therefore, concentrate on the technical side.
